Specialities

The Master Scuba Diver Rating is the highest attainable qualification for a leisure scuba diver (non professional) in the PADI system. It is awarded to divers who have reached the level of Rescue Diver and who have also completed five speciality courses. There are many advantages in gaining this rating, not least of which is the broad and expansive range of knowledge and experience you will attain. Your passion and commitment as a diver will also naturally increase as you learn much more about five facets of diving that really interest you. It is possible to credit for a previously completed Adventure dive to count as the first dive of any given speciality. This makes the courses more affordable. We credit an adventure dive towards a speciality more often than not.

Minimum age 15. Four dives aimed at acclimatising you to diving between 18 and 40 metres, you need to be a PADI Adventure diver to enrol. You will encounter and learn the skills, knowledge, and enjoyment of diving beyond the 30 metres accessible as an AOWD.

Dry Suit Diver (£199 or €245)
Minimum age 12. Two dives aimed at a thorough familiarisation and introduction to the safety, specific techniques and maintenance required of dry suit diving, prefaced by a confined water training session. Call us to discuss but we suggest that the confined water orientation is conducted at your local dive centre before the trip. Only recommended for the winter months!

Underwater or Digital Underwater Photographer (£190 or €235)
Minimum age 10. A well structured introduction to the unique challenges and rewards of underwater photography. This course will save you much money on wasted development and film costs and/or the frustration of endless average results with a digital camera. It may even save you the cost of a camera!

Enriched Air (Nitrox) Diver (£199 or €275)
Minimum age 15. Learn the theory and practice of diving with Enriched Air or Nitrox (more Oxygen, less Nitrogen). The practical and tangible benefits of diving with Nitrox include increased safety margins when pushing air limits, less fatigue, more time underwater before incurring compulsory safety stops and much longer allowable bottom time on repetitive dives (thus great for live-aboard diving). Four very good reasons to seriously consider Nitrox training, apart from the fact that once in the water, you are to all intents and purposes just going on a fun dive.

Wreck Diver (£255 or €315)
Minimum age 15. We offer this course by request and special arrangement. For those drawn by the mystique and unique interests of wreck diving this course offers a sound introduction (four dives) to the specific techniques and knowledge every budding wreck diver should be familiar with.

Surface Marker Buoy (Distinctive Speciality) (£139 or €175)
This is a one day course covering extremely important safety skills. We believe this course should be considered essential for all Advanced Open Water Divers and above. The course teaches you how to safely deploy marker buoys together with the various different ways they are used to the diving community.

We also offer Peak Performance Buoyancy and Project Aware specialities. We will be adding to this list during the 2009 season so if you are particularly interested in a given speciality please contact us.

** All prices include training materials, dives, instruction, certification and VAT. For these courses equipment hire is a supplement of €8 per dive.
